The COVID-19 pandemic has created a lot of uncertainty for our nation, communities, and life as we know it.  As we know, many large group gatherings have been cancelled, postponed, or modified for participant safety and to mitigate the spread of the virus.

That said, the Village of Kronenwetter Fire Department takes your safety and the safety of our community seriously.  As our top priority, we want you to know that we are closely monitoring the situation and are working hard on some great alternatives if the virus should prevent us from coming together this September.

Please be advised, logistical changes to Run for the Fallen have NOT been implemented at this time. This information simply serves as an effort to maintain transparency with our runners and manage expectations in the event that we would be required to modify our event for safety purposes.

So, what could Run for the Fallen 2020 look like?

While it is our sincerest hope that we can host the event in the manner we always have, the coming months will tell us if this will be something we can curate safely and responsibly.

If that is not a possibility, rest assured that we will pull out all the stops to bring you a wonderfully organized virtual event that you can safely do in your own neighborhood. If required to make this transition, it is our promise to bring this safe alternative to you with the same organization, professionalism and care that you can expect from the Run for the Fallen team.  You may see things like a virtual Opening Memorial Ceremony and Award Ceremony, contactless race bag pick up, mailed awards among other things.

These potential changes would allow us to come together even when we can't be together.

We would also like to take this opportunity to share with you that the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation program for 2020 has been selected.  To do our part to assist in this global crisis, we have chosen to support the NFFF COVID-19 Emergency Fund.  This official program of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, provides programs and services to first responders and their families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  These challenging times have brought upon additional needs for those on the front lines, with fewer resources.

First responders need our support more than ever, and we can all do our part to make a difference.

Even though the possibility exists that Run for the Fallen may be a little different this year, you can count on our team to still provide an incredible outlet for you to remember and honor those gave everything while paying tribute to those who continue to serve in these challenging times.

As our team works to determine best practices and policies in this rapidly changing environment, we want to encourage you to continue to register with peace of mind, knowing that come September, Run for the Fallen will still be here.

Thank you for all of the continued registrations, patience and support.

Stay safe, stay healthy and remember we're in this together.
