NEW 2020 - Thank you for your interest in the 1 Mile Firefighter Challenge (Friends & Family) event.   If you have a friend or family member that is participating in the 1 Mile Firefighter Challenge, as an active member of the fire service community, we encourage you to sign up and accompany them in this event. 

ABOUT: The 1 Mile Firefighter Challenge is a 1 mile run/walk in which fire personnel are invited to participate in full gear in honor of the fallen first responders of 9/11.  

Your participation in this event is not only about remembrance, but also about supporting those that continue to serve our communities today.  

As a non-fire personnel participant, we ask that you keep the above statement in mind during this event. If you are registering for the 1 Mile, you should be accompanying a friend or family member who is currently serving in the fire service community. 

 

We ask that you walk or run alongside them as they navigate the course. Please do not be competitive.  Your participation in this event is about supporting those who put their lives on the line every day, rather than crossing the finish line first. 

Turnout gear will not be provided for public use. If the firefighter you are accompanying provides you with gear, you are welcome to wear it.  Please be advised, even in full gear, non-fire personnel are not eligible for awards during this event. 

Please consider the 5K, 10K or 1 Mile Kid's Run if you do not know a participating firefighter and are simply looking to participate in a Run for the Fallen event.

COURSE INFO: The Run For The Fallen 1 Mile Firefighter Challenge Course is a nice, flat, down and back route spanning Pine Road (west) down to Evergreen Elementary.

WATER/FIRST AID: This course offers one water station and first aid station.  Water and first aid will also be available at Towering Pines Park.

 

RESTROOMS:  Restrooms are available at Towering Pines Park 

 

TIMING:  Chip timed event - timing services provided by Tortoise & Hare Race Management

SHIRT CUT-OFF:  August 12th, 2020.  Please register by this date to be guaranteed an event tee in your correct size.  Extra shirts will be ordered and given to participants on a first-come, first-served basis. 

♿ ACCESSIBILITY: All routes are wheelchair and stroller accessible. ADA accessible restrooms and designated parking is available at Towering Pines Park.
